A sweet session

This Thursday is our next Live Ready workshop. Jennifer Shaw reports that it's her favorite class so far! We'll learn all about OATS, SUGAR and HONEY: nutritional value of oats and whole grains, types of sugar, cooking with less sugar, caramelizing sugar (sugared nuts), substituting honey for sugar, and the proper care and storage of honey.

We'll meet at 7 p.m. at the Bangerter building, as usual. This is a very busy time of year, and we've had some extra spaces the past few months, so feel free to invite your neighbors or others who would be interested in attending. Because each class is self-contained, you shouldn't worry about jumping in late. Help us spread the word about these wonderful, informative (and delicious) classes.

It's go time!

We're just getting started with our keynote address here at the Live Ready Conference and Fair. Getting a late start? We'll have plenty of booths and workshops beginning at 10:30, so come over and join us. The address of the stake center is 3900 S. 4000 West.

All hands on deck

The LIVE READY Conference and Fair is one week away. We still could use some help at this great event. If you are willing to take a shift as a room steward, hall monitor, usher, registration staffer, parking-lot director, etc., please come to a meeting Sunday, March 15, at 7 p.m. in the Relief Society room at the stake center to get instructions. See you there!

Coming this month: Conference and fair

The Live Ready Conference and Fair is coming up in less than two weeks. Remember, this event is for everyone in the community, so invite your neighbors! It's all happening Saturday, March 21, at the Jordan North Stake Center. No need to register, just show up ready to learn. Questions? Contact Jennifer Shaw (phone 801-982-0551).

Here is a detailed list of what will be available that day.

Bringing in the sheaves

We had a fantastic turnout and an informative presentation when we kicked off our workshop series last month. Now it's time for the next workshop: Wheat! We'll learn about storing, cooking and grinding wheat; making bread; proofing yeast; cooking whole wheat; and how to use grinders. We still have spaces available, so email Jennifer Shaw or phone her at 801-982-0551 to register, or visit the Event Brite page. (You'll be prompted for a password; it's liveready.) We'll see you Thursday at 7 p.m. at the 5th and 6th Ward building on the corner of Bangerter and 4100 South.

Workshops start this week

We're very excited about the first of our workshops, Family Plan Overview and Bag Meal, coming up this Thursday. All spots have been filled, but we will have a waitlist. You WILL need to sign up to have a chance to attend. Please contact Jennifer Shaw (phone 801-982-0551) to be added to this list — or, conversely, if something comes up and you're unable to attend, please let Jennifer know so someone from the waitlist can take your place. Thanks, and we'll see you at the Bangerter building on Thursday!

Are you ready?

The first of our monthly Live Ready workshops is just around the corner, and we've had a healthy response. We have a maximum capacity of 100 at each workshop, so please sign up as soon as possible.

The easiest way to register is at our Eventbrite page, where you can sign up for as many of the monthly workshops as you'd like — or sign up for the whole series at once. You will need to enter the password liveready to view the page. Alternatively, you may contact Jennifer Shaw (phone 801-982-0551).

Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions:

This is just a Relief Society thing, right?
No, it isn't just for the ladies. Everyone can benefit from this knowledge, and all are welcome.

May friends of other faiths or from outside the stake be involved?
Yes.

If other members of my family attend with me, will we each get a "Take and Make" packet?
We will prepare one packet per household unless you request otherwise. Please let us know if you'll need more and we'll gladly prepare one (or more) for you!

What are the monthly themes?
See this post for a complete schedule.
